So yesterday, Jenn her sister and I drove out to Bastrop to do a training ride for the MS 150. This is the map of the route we took. This is actually a training ride, called pedalthrupines, but we cheated and didn't pay the $40 registration fee. We did the metric century route. The map says that it is 62 something miles, but it ended up being around 66 miles.
So if you haven't done this ride, it is a killer ride! The first part of it, you go through Bastrop State Park and Buescher State Park. It was a really pretty ride, and all the tree's blocked the wind. There were some good hills that you had to go up, but you usually had a nice down hill before going up one, so if you charged it, it was fairly easy to get up the next hill. Once we were out of the state parks, the wind hit us and was kind of brutal. There were not to many hills, but the hills that were there, were fucking huge! I'm sure some of you have made the drive from Houston to Austin, those hills on 71 are no joke.
I finished the 66 miles in just over four hours of ride time. Not to shabby considering those damn hills. If you have never ridden this ride, I suggest you do so. You don't even have to do the farm roads, just do the ride through the state parks, good ride, lots of up hills and down hills, I topped out at 38.8 miles an hour yesterday. I could have gone faster, but there was a side wind, and it made me feel super unstable, so I didn't push it.
All in all, had a great time yesterday, just wish I could have slept in today.
