Actions speak louder then words....
So I posted this awhile back when it first happened(but I can't find my effin post), and many other people have posted this in their blogs and facebook accounts since the verdict was given out. But in case you haven't heard.....the Dr. was found guilty.
This is a sigh of relief for any cyclist following this story. We all encounter motorist everyday that in some way effect our lives, they don't think twice about it, but it stays in our thoughts throughout the day. You can look at the craigslist rants and raves on a daily basis and see the internet tough guys post about their frustrations with cyclist. Most of these people are tough guys who would never act out like they say they will.
There are those though, who are mentally unstable that may just act out on their feelings, which would leave most of us in the hospital. The bicycling website blogger Bob Mionske brought up a good point in his latest blog he wrote.
Bob said,
It may sound ludicrous to our ears, but that was how he attempted to portray the incident. The question at hand was whether the jury would also think it ludicrous, or whether it would be swayed by the doctor’s standing in the community, and the negative image of cyclists held by many motorists.
This leads me to think about myself with all the things that has happened to me and all of my friends that ride here. This accident seemed to spawn from one of the cyclist throwing the one fingered salute up, which we all do. The drivers that come to close to us, who almost hit us, who honk their horns at us, and spew hate as they drive by, they all deserve the universal sign of FUCK YOU.
But what if the motorist that deserves that "fuck you" is someone like the good ole Dr. or a good ole boy in his big pick up that wants to teach us a lesson?

Thompson said that he was “tired” of the cyclists on Mandeville Canyon Road, and “I wanted to teach them a lesson.”
Which makes you think about all the cycling accidents here in Austin, and how many of are accidents. This happened right in front of my apartment complex. I ride Parmer lane often, and it has a HUGE shoulder to ride on, and I really doubt that the cyclist were in a lane that goes 60+ miles an hour.
This could be any road that we travel everyday. Dr. Thompson's attorney says that this was “an unfortunate accident.” What is an unfortunate accident, is something that is just that, an accident. Not something that was intentional. Dr. Thompson's actions, were not an accident. Which leads right into this, in some cases cycling fatalities/injuries may be, but this isn't the first time the Dr. has encountered cyclist and had "something to say/prove/teach" to them.
I think most of my friends that are cyclist, do the right thing when it comes to cycling, yeah, we may not stop at every single stop sign, or every single light, but neither do most motorist. My problem with most motorist is that they play the card of all cyclist don't follow the law, we all know that this is not the case. Just because a few bad apple rotten, doesn't mean the whole bunch is. The same can be said for motorist as well.
I guess the point of writing this post is, we are always going to be scrutinized for the actions of ourselves or other cyclist. The new 3ft law is not always going to protect us. We need to protect ourselves, and be aware of our surroundings (I know we all are). No one is going to look for us, so we have to look for them. If you do get close to being hit/buzzed/shit thrown at you/called names/cut off, just remember, someone like Dr. Thompson, may behind the wheel. So try and keep those middle fingers down, and lets show the motorist, that WE ARE BETTER THEN THEM.

Pedicab ride ends in arrest
I find this funny, and I hope the "real" pedicab riders/operators got a few punches in while they held this guy down.
Paul Monroe Buchanan, 27, told police he thought pedicabs were available for free and for public use, so he was taking the pedicab home, according to the arrest affidavit.
Fucking douchebag, what would make you think they are free for public use and even if they were, what makes you think you could take it home.
I wonder what the fine and court cost and damage cost are gonna run this guy? Anyone have an idea?

Dan Cakes from ATX fixed gettin yer done!!!!
So I was just doing my normal cruising, and saw Andrew from ATXfixed was the featured bike blogger/blog of the week, in Bike Blog NYC.
Andrew, had an interview with the blogger, I was happy to see that my blog actually gets read along with all the other great blogs out there. I know my blog is not as informative as Jason's, but fuck it. Sometimes I wanna say something too!!!

I own 1 Spanish track bike and 1 hand built eight-speed cyclocross/commuter bike.
What got you into track bikes?
I got into fixed gears/track bikes because they were cheaper than the bus in Portland and because I could work on them myself.
Have you ever been a messenger?
I have never been a messenger. I would like to be, but there are only, like, six of them in Austin.
What got you into alleycats?
I got into alleycats initially because they were the only way i could meet other cyclists to ride with. Now I’m into them to push myself to the next level physically and mentally.
What do you like about them?
I love the social aspect of alleycats because you get to meet riders from different cities and I love combining the culture of urban cyclists with actual athletic competition.
Why did you start the blog?
Chris Lee, Ahlee, and I started ATXfixed because we wanted to develop a singular voice for the Central Texas fixed gear scene. We, along with riders in College Station, Houston, Denton, and San Marcos are all working our asses off filming, editing, reading, drinking, hosting races and racers, wrenching, eating, training, and creating on our bikes in order to establish a powerful network of friends and peers, involve riders from different towns, and hopefully interest people in what we are doing down here in Texas. We started the blog in order to document our progression, and to get free shit
What Kind of people read your blog?
Typically it’s the riders who are looking for local events to attend. Because we try so hard to showcase original and exclusive content, we get a lot of feedback from locals that read our blog everyday after they read Tracko, Prolly, Bootleg, Zlog, and BBNYC, but ideally we want to appeal to the national audience by offering articles, pictures and opinions that are unique to us and our regional culture. We have a consistent and dedicated following for our monthly Fab Friday races and our weekly Sexy Sunday trick meet, but we are proud to have such a wide variety of people show up. Trialthetes, cyclocross and road racers, bmx and cruiser guys, mountain bikers and pedicabbers, messengers and food delivery folks, and then the predictable urban fixed gear riders all show up to our events after reading the blog, so we try to come up with content that is interesting to all of them, and hopefully we can continue succeeding at that.
What is the scene like in Austin?
The scene in Austin is just now coming into it’s own. There have been SO many races this last 9 months, whereas it was really hard to find them before. With our crew/group of friends starting the Fabulous Fixed First Friday races, we have definitely become a more solid social group, and a good amount of us have started going out to races in other parts of Texas, and hosting races so racers from out of town can come and crash on our floors and get drunk with us. We have freestyle dudes, commuters, and straight up mashers who can all hang out and talk about bikes and learn about bikes from eachother. At this point a lot of us are building up bikes for different purposes, like cyclocross, which is gaining a lot of momentum down here, or geared commuter bikes for groceries, or road bikes for longer training rides and short tours. It all comes back to the track bike standpoint, though, in the way we move ourselves through the city and react against all of the random variables. Essentially we are just cross training, which ultimately helps our riding on our favorite bikes: our track bikes.
What do you think of all these fixed gear blogs? What surprises you? What bike blogs do you follow?
I think fixed gear specific blogs are great, but I think that there too many of them out there that don’t update enough. It is really hard to update a blog consistently when you have a job that doesn’t allow you access to a computer (or when you don’t own a computer, like i didn’t for the first 4 months of ATXFixed!) or when you are a busy student like Ahlee and Chris, so we have added several moderators to try to make up for our busy schedules. It is also really really difficult to come up with original content, as opposed to just reading the bigger blogs and culling content out of them. I keep up with Prolly, Maca, Mash, Bootleg, Bike Blog NYC, and Tracko, as far as the big blogs go. I love Bike Jerks from Minneapolis and I always check Jason Abels’ and Les Bennetts’local blogs, ATXBS and OneLesCar. My reading has gotten narrowed down because I have eventually figured who puts up original content more often then others. Again, a lot of that seems to have to do with what kind of job you have. Guys like Prolly and Jason both work desk jobs, so they have access to computers all day at work, and that turns into where they get most of their blogging done. They get a lot of face time with the community and by being so accessable, they are given information first in order to post it and bring it to the masses. I appreciate how quickly they work, and at this point we are trying to figure out how to have that same access to original content so that we can eventually become a nationally read blog.
What was one of the most interesting experiences you had on a bike?
To me, the most consistently interesting thing about riding my bike is hanging out with all of the awesome people that get together to ride. I loved (and hated) hosting all 6 of the raven feeders during SXSW this month, as well as ben w and justin from feetbelts and bootleg sessions. We got to ride all day for a week, simultaneously filming and drinking, talking shit and playing dice, and I got to be a part of some of the most elevated riding I have every witnessed. Recently, all of the races and premiers we have been helping with have put ATXfixed in the forefront of the austin fixed gear community. We like that. We like to bring people together. We like hearing other ideas and seeing how different towns call for different bike setups and riding styles.

Big blogs like Bootleg, Maca, MASH, Prolly and Tracko are really seen as tastemakers in the fixed gear culture, and I feel that ATXfixed has a role to fill, too. I really have a huge amount of respect for those bloggers, and I pull information and inspiration from their hard work and connections. Ideally, we want to be able to supply enough content to get readers in other parts of the world interested in what we are doing in Central Texas, but on a day to day level, we are just glad that we get to write about how much fucking fun we have.
So there you have it, one of our own, is getting some recognition from all the way in NYC

Drop Dead in 3 weeks
We're three weeks away folks. You're going to want to bring five bucks to enter and 2 cans of food. Yes, Yes I know, sounds a lot like Chris Lee's race. I promise it will be different, I have something in store for you my pretties!!!!! Bring a bag (BIG) and some extra cash.
All the money is going to YBP. We've all been there done some volunteering, and of course fixed our bikes. I want to see them up and going in the new shop as soon as possible. I know a couple of other folks have the same idea, but it's a good one.
So come out three weeks from now. It will start at the new East Side Pedal Pushers location (5th and onion) registration 2 race 3.

Ride to work
So I rode my bike into work today, it was about a 17 mile ride. It felt great outside, and I'm glad to finally be back on the bike so I can ride to work. Normally I would be going out tonight because it is Friday, but I have a 40+ mile training ride tomorrow morning for the Tour de Cure, I consider it a training ride for the MS 150 as well since I am riding in both. After that ride is a rally for the Tour de Cure. There is going to be some grub and some prizes as well I think. So if you wanna ride, give me a shout and you can ride with Jenn and I.

Love Stinks
So today the love stinks race today.
I will be racing today for the first time since September of last year. I know that I won't place, but it will be nice to be back on the bike and competing once again. My leg is still not 100% so I will be taking it easy and guess what....PAYING EVEN MORE ATTENTION TO CARS!!!! Chris Lee is a cool cat, and I'm expecting this to be a great race. I just hope he doesn't kill us with a ton of hills.
It starts at the Lamar pedestrian bridge. Entry fee is 2 cans of grub and 5 bucks. Both are going to good causes. Come out if you have nothing else to do on such a beautiful day. It is a little windy, so bring a light jacket or something.

This is a sweet vintage road bike. It is a Cierra - from what I know the frames were manufactured in Korea for a company in Wisconsin - The bike has the bigger 27" wheels, but has spacing that would accomodate 700c rims. Frame is free of dents but there are several scratches. I just put new tires on it and it is ready to ride. Rides smooth and shifts well. Excellent starter road bike or commuter. I love how this bike is called a "Tour de France" bike. Maybe if it was 1972. I mean don't get me wrong, looks like it "might" be a decent bike, but then again..... it was made in Korea. I love that people try and take advantage of people. Love it.

i believe its 52cm...im 5'6" and it was perfect.
has a front brake, bullhorn handlebars, no flip flop hub.
no major scratches or dents.
very lightweight.

My biggest issue with this bike is that you can go to bikesdirect.com and purchase your exact size and get it shipped for free. Now if that is your size good deal for you, but just do a little research. I have said that time and time again. Just FYI, if you are new into the "fixie" scene, this might be a "alright" bike, but if you want a solid bike, look into something else.

This bike is a collectors item aswell, only 1000 or so were made. This bike has been sitting in the crate in my garage for years and just now assembled. Brand new batteries were installed. December 1st
So we are in December now. I have been looking forward to the cooler weather, but it seems now my knee will start acting up because of the plate and screws that I have in it. So I am going to be one of those old men that can tell when bad weather is a brewing, because I am going to feel it, before it hits.
So just to give you another update, the Snot and Tears alleycat is still going down. It sounds fun as shit. I hope I don't have to work. I'd like to just hang out and see what goes down.

update
So some of you may know, some may not. I was in a bike/SUV accident on Tuesday. I was riding home from work and went through the windshield of an SUV. I had to have thirty one stitches in my arm, and what looks like twenty three on my leg. I had to have emergency surgery Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. I am doing pretty good all things considered.I am in the need of a wheelchair, so if you have one, or knows someone who has one....can I borrow it? I probably will need it for about a month or two.

Today at 5:30 What are you doing?
I know what I am going to be doing. Eastside Pedal Pushers might have to move, because someone wants to cash in on the "eastside" and putting another coffee shop/gallery were ESPP is. We don't need another one. There are at least three in the same general area. This was sent to me in email the other day, so I am posting it up again.

Quick breakdown - strange things are afoot on the east side of Austin
TX and Lee needs help. Some hipsters are trying to remove him from
his shop to put in *another* coffee shop on the east side. You all
ride bikes, so you know we need more shops in town than we need more
coffee shops. Don't get me wrong - I love some coffee, but there are
already 3, that I know of, within a mile or so. And Progress it HUGE!
Anyway - if you like Lee, or bike shops, or fighting the power, here's
the stats:
City Council Chambers
301 W. 2nd.
5:30 pm on Monday the 13th
Show up, ride your bike (of course), and try to look *real* mean.

Eastside Pedal Pushers
So I just saw this post over on ATXBS.
Wanted to let you know that Lee, Scott and the rest of the ESPP community are about to be removed from their spot if the bike community doesn't take action. There are two girls who want to kick them out to build a cafe / art gallery there. I'm a little unclear as to how the bureaucratic details work out, but I know there's a hearing with the Neighborhood Association for that area on Monday, Oct. 13th that is open to the public and they're basically going to be deliberating over the fate of the space. So if enough people show up and give Lee support, the shop might have a case for community value (as opposed to yet another of the many already existing yuppy cafes on E. 5th/6th) and could reasonably work out a deal to stay put. I mean, he's got the only real legit bike shop on the east side (minus YBP of course) so I don't see how he could possibly be deemed unimportant if there's a big enough crowd.
If you know Lee, you'll know he's one of the most un-assuming and worthwhile guys around. In other words, I think it's going to take the rest of the community to be the loud-mouthed obnoxious supporters.
So if you could maybe get in touch with Lee and see what the details are more specifically, would you mind posting about it on ATXBS?

I just got off the phone with Scott, and the neighborhood association meeting will be on October 13th @ 5:00 pm. Scott said that the girls that are trying to buy it out are looking to have parking spaces and if they can't get them (provide them) they may not be able to buy the building.
I have been going to ESPP for about 2 and a half years now. The shop as of recently has been picking up more and more business. Lee and Scott are two of the nicest and most knowledgeable people I know. They let me come in and work on my bike, and offer and advice and answer questions when I don't know how to fix something.
