Craigslist, some good and some bad #11

So just cruising the CL and found a couple of things that made me laugh.

to the fixie rider at 4th & congress that i slammed a door into (4th and congress)

dude. soooooooo sorry man. i ALWAYS check my mirror before i exit, i don't know what happened this time. anyway, i'm incredible sorry about that. i've been hit by cars on my fixed with no brakes and it blows. if your gf needs proof of evidence that you were late, come by (more slowly) and i'll apologize personally. and valet her car if necessary. i'm glad i didn't destroy your hand, or bike, or fork, or wheel. or your head. a true testament to why every cyclist should wear one, me included. if i hadn't had customers standing right there (this wouldn't have happened, and,) i would have laid that jackass out. seriously, i should have spoken up and told him it was my fault and to go fuck himself over what wasn't even a couple scratches on his piece of shit tahoe. fuck him. gr. anyway i'm glad you're alright and didn't make a huge deal out of it; i'm pretty sure we both knew cyclists aren't technically supposed to pass on the side, but i've done it and got mine too, not that i'm blame placing because it was (in my eyes) both our faults. i've dodged cyclists before and will from now on. best of luck. sincerest apologies. if your headset needs a tune-up, i've got a couple spares.

At least this does sound sincere.

adorable bike courier this morning - w4m - 23 (downtown)

you: bike courier wearing black cut offs and vans
me: bite size blonde receptionist with an armload of mail, blushing uncontrollably

you came by to pick up some forms and i'm glad i had mail to distribute because i had to take a minute to regain my composure. it's not every day someone so delightfully good looking comes into the office! you asked my name before disappearing forever, and yes, first names are typically better, but not when you are trying to stalk someone on the internet. of course, i mean stalk in the sweetest way possible.

i've been here four months and couriers come in all the time, typically wielding sandwiches or cookies, but this is the first time you've ever delivered something here. i probably missed my only opportunity. too bad because i really want to have a casual encounter with you in the elevator. or anywhere else.

if your name is james and you are the adorable bike courier that came into my office today, please respond! i want to feed you lone star and blackberries.

if you know this person, give him a heads up!

James (not Clayton).....you've been called out.....

to the jerk who stole my bike light (Half Price Books N Lamar)

I hope you get a paper cut on your asshole and then sit in lemon juice.

HAHAHA!!!!

and in response, sure this isn't the person who did it, just some jackass.

To the Dork missing a bike light (Half Price Books N Lamar)

Thanks I needed one

Some jackassery in any way that you look at it. I wish people wouldn't fuck with other people's shit.

Ahhh Sometimes I love CL. Worst of craigslist # 10

So I am at work be bored, and started looking at CL. This is just a little bit of stuff I thought was funny. We'll start with some ranting and raving.

I used to ride a bike when I was 15 and couldn't drive a damn car. (jhmember)

"People who ride bikes are pussies.Lance Armstrong has won the Tour de France 7 times. The only reason Lance has won this race so many times, is because anyone who is badass enough LIKE ME !!! wouldn't ride a bike. so basically he is racing against a bunch of tools who couldn't play any other sport. If I wasn't lazy I could ride a bike around too. The fact is, that is stupid. When I drive by bike riders I always beep my horn then swerve in an attempt to scare the shit out of them. Just so I can watch in my rear view mirror as they flip over the top of their bike . Then I laugh and laugh"./span>

So I seem to start hating people more and more each day, but it was met with this response. I thought that it was very fitting.

Yeah, backass, meth-making, truck driving, Pabst Blue Ribbon drinking, wife beating, 8th-grade-educated, trailer-park-living, KKK rally attending, assjack, tardmonkey, cock knob, fuckrags like you love to watch NASCAR. Sure, NASCAR's got big-ass engines, noise, and lots o’ car crashes and flames and shit, which is manly. But they also got names of dishwashing soap on their cars. I’m surprised they don’t advertise feminine hygiene products on their racing uniforms. Besides, sitting on your ass all afternoon warchin’ cars drive by ain’t a sport. That’s called being a parking lot attendant.

You call Lance Armstrong a pussy, but at least he busted half a nut in Sheryl Crow's shapely ass.

So, hop back into your oversized small-penis overcompensating giant truck equipped with Gun Rack, 4-Wheel Drive, Confederate Flag, Toothpick Holder, 8-Track, Load of Wood, Hijacker Shocks, Mud-grip Tires, Racoon Hide seats, Dual CB Antenna, Fuzz Buster, Spitoon, Camper Top, Mag Wheels, Air Horns, Mud Flaps w/women on them, and Curb Feelers, and mosey on back to your double-wide Jethro.

Now onto some pictures....YAY!!!

Tour de France Race Bike!!! - $200 (S. Austin)

This is a sweet vintage road bike. It is a Cierra - from what I know the frames were manufactured in Korea for a company in Wisconsin - The bike has the bigger 27" wheels, but has spacing that would accomodate 700c rims. Frame is free of dents but there are several scratches. I just put new tires on it and it is ready to ride. Rides smooth and shifts well. Excellent starter road bike or commuter. Please call Jody, 903-253-****.

I love how this bike is called a "Tour de France" bike. Maybe if it was 1972. I mean don't get me wrong, looks like it "might" be a decent bike, but then again..... it was made in Korea. I love that people try and take advantage of people. Love it.

like new condition fixed gear bike...
i believe its 52cm...im 5'6" and it was perfect.
has a front brake, bullhorn handlebars, no flip flop hub.
no major scratches or dents.
very lightweight.

photo is a stock photo...my camera is broken :(

My biggest issue with this bike is that you can go to bikesdirect.com and purchase your exact size and get it shipped for free. Now if that is your size good deal for you, but just do a little research. I have said that time and time again. Just FYI, if you are new into the "fixie" scene, this might be a "alright" bike, but if you want a solid bike, look into something else.

Electric Bike - CHARGER - $800 (West Austin)

Reply to: sale-958919628@craigslist.org [?]

The Charger is perhaps the most advanced vehicle ever designed for personal use! Both the electronic and mechanical control you have, make this bike the greatest!

The Shimano 7 speed internal hub transmission, activated by the Revo twist shifter...gives you a wide range of gears, to further let you choose how much (or little) you wish to struggle! Try down-shifting at a stop sign on any other e-bike...or pedaling in any gear with no motor drag whatsoever!

This bike is a collectors item aswell, only 1000 or so were made. This bike has been sitting in the crate in my garage for years and just now assembled. Brand new batteries were installed. This bike is a blast to ride . To charge you just plug it in the wall. You can also use the bike without the battery pack. The frame is made by GT bikes.

AWESOME!!! I thought the point in riding around on a bicycle is to actually ride and get some what of a work out. If you want a motorized bike, get a fucking scooter.

Worst of Craigslist #9

This just in, things just keep getting better and better.

First up,

Vintage Free Spirit Dynasty Converted Single Speed Bike 54cm This is for a Vintage Free Spirit Dynasty Converted Single from 10 Speed Bike that is in Very Good Condition and Ready To Ride. Frame Size 54cm Stand Over 31 inches Color: Blue New Tires: 27 x 1 1/4.

When I fist saw this posting, I was thinking someone probably had some kind of janky ass conversion....and boy was I right.

$140????really? I mean I could see someone asking 140 for this bike, IF it had gears, or if it was truly converted into a single speed. This is just some ghetto ass single speed conversion, that someone is trying to get more money then what they should, because of the fixed/single speed craze.

I like how "Dbikeguy" even gave you a close up of the piece that he is trying to get rid of. I'm sure someone is bound to buy this bike, but I would rather see him put the gears back on and sell it that way, or just actually put a single gear on it, and not ten.

If that wasn't enough, "Dbikeguy" wanted to tell you about this wondeful piece of machinery was too.

Vintage Univega Rover Sport 14 Speed Hybrid Bike 47cm

This is for a Vintage Univega Rover Sport 14 Speed Hybrid Bike that is in Very Good Condition and Ready To Ride.

Great Campus Bike.

Frame Size 47cm

Stand Over 28 3/4 inches

Tires: 26 x 1.75. They are in good condition.

Rear Rack.

Lawee Designed USA

I like how he says very good condition. I see a rusty chain, rust on the bike itself, scratches, dents, and the side walls of the tires don't look so hot either.

Another big FAIL Dbikeguy.

This bike is probably the best of the group. It still has its gears and looks to "actually" be in better shape.

For your money, if anyone wants a beater bike, I would suggest this one.

Hey for thirty bucks, you are getting a WAY better deal.

For those of you that would like to spend around $140 dollars on a beater bike, I suggest you go to your local wally world and get you a better bike. Hell spend a few bucks more and get this one.If you are REALLY tight on money, get this one.

I'm just going to say this again, and I know that it won't be the last time I say this. Do some homework first on the bikes that you are looking at on CL. Chances are the person selling it to you, bought it at wally world four years ago, and are trying to sell it for 3 times what you can get it now.

Worst of ATX Craigslist #8

So I have to start out with one, that I sent to the BSNYC.

One of a Kind, Kick Ass, Classic Bianchi Fixie - $1300 (Central)
Reply to: sale-837131947@craigslist.org [?]
Date: 2008-09-11, 5:46PM CDT

This is a 1972 Bianchi frame bought straight out of Milan, vintage campy set-up, 52:18, Selle seat, put the whole thing together myself check out the picture and email with questions.

Okay, I Know the bike snob has the pista dex totally covered, but when I saw this pop up in my own home town, I had to say something about it. I have seen plenty of other pista's go for prices almost as high as this, but not quite this high. I understand that it is from the 70's making it vintage, but really the bike is only worth that much to collector's. Just sayin, I wouldn't pay 1300 for a pista.

Edit: Whoever is selling this changed their posting after I posted this blog, the new link is here.

Aluminum Fixed Gear - $500 (West Campus)

55cm brushed aluminum conversion, a fresh build with about 10 miles on it. Fits a rider under 5'10".
-New formula hub wheelset, 48/17 ratio, 17 tooth flip flop freewheel.
-Aero fork, drop bars (shown) or risers if you prefer
-Toe cages, finger brake and new handle bar tape of your choice (not shown in the picture).

This bike is a definite looker.

Give me a call if interested
512-964-xxxx
-Will

Well I guess it doesn't matter what the frame is as long as it is aluminum. I mean it could be a walmart bike for all we know. It also looks as to have a HUGE dent in the chain stay. No description of the wheels, except that it has a flip flop hub. Well, he didn't say what kind of frame either, so I guess that is to be expected. I'm surprised he put what size the bike is. I do love the choice of risers or drops, and choice of bar tape!!!! woooohooo!!!

This one just made me about laugh and piss myself.

vintage SCHWINN Sprint single speed - $275 (NORTH)

red SCHWINN Sprint
single speed
54 cm
drop handlebars with new grips
front brake

needs new tires
bike is in good condition
ready to ride
512 554 xxxx

*sorry for no pictures, do not have access to a camera*
this picture however is very similar to the bike being sold (minus the water bottle holder, the back brake, the grips are yellow instead of black, it is a single speed and older tires)

Okay??? Seriously?? Why would you be asking 275 for a bike you don't even have pictures of? I mean I get not having a really bad ass digital camera, but almost everyone has a crappy cell phone camera. Don't ask that much for a bike that you don't even have a picture of, I doubt that thing is even a Schwinn.
